In the state of Florida a Licensed Midwife is a Direct Entry Midwife who also qualifies as a Certified Professional Midwife. A Florida licensed midwife provides primary maternity care for women with low risk pregnancies, offering complete prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care.A Florida LM is a graduate of a 3 year academic and clinical midwifery education program and meets the licensing requirements established by national and international professional standards, by passing the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) national certification exam.
Licensed Midwives in the state of Florida are autonomous practitioners who are specialists in normal pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. LM’s are trained to recognize deviations from the norm and are also trained and equipped to handle potential complications that might arise. As part of licensing requirements LM’s are required to remain current in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.
Licensed Midwives offer childbirth services in clients homes, birth centers, clinics, and hospitals and are eligible for reimbursement by private insurers and medicaid.
